Some of his co-workers call him Robert but you probably know him as John. Always dressed in a shirt and tie, if you visit Zing, you can find him at his desk or near the Canon printer. Without delay, I’ll let you discover John…
Hi John, thank you for doing this interview. Please, introduce yourself.
Hi, I’m John, graphic designer at Zing and I have been working here for almost 30 years. Almost as long as Aileen (laughs).
Can you describe your role within the company?
Basically I design work that Aileen gives me and print quite a lot. I have been working with some of our customers for over 20 years.
You said previously that you have been working here for 30 years! Have you always been at the same position?
No, I started off in the finishing department.
Can you describe your academic career?
After my A-level, I graduated with a B-Tech at the Technical College at Coleraine.
What does a typical day at Zing involve for you?
Well, a typical day means opening up, switching on the lights, the Canon and saying hi to Kenny. Then after the production meeting starting off all the jobs that I have to do that day.
According to you, what are the essential qualities for someone in your position?
You need to be creative. Not all the customers have a clear idea about what they want, so I have be able to come up with a solution. Sometimes I ask Leisa and we come up with an idea, she is really good.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are gardening and coin collecting.
I guess that you should have a great garden. So, can you share a tip with us.
Gardening is about deep watering the lawn.
I ask your co-workers to describe you in one word, here are what they said: “unique”, “stubborn”, “character”, “helpful” and "funny"... Is that true?

Probably yes (laughs) but in my defense, Julie-Anne is stubborn as well (laughs)
What about you, how would you describe yourself?
That would be awkward !
And last question, there is always among employees, that one person who enjoy joking about others. Everyone agreed that it was you... and you, do you agree?
Yes and you should know that ! (laughs)
