How to improve YOUR creativity today!

“Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being. Creativity requires passion and commitment. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness: ecstasy.” – Rollo May, The Courage to Create

In celebration of sponsoring the Creative Industries Award at the 2019 Causeway Coast and Glens Business Awards Zing have decided to share a few steps that we take to be the most creative we can and stay current within the the print and design industry! Applications for this award and many more are open now so why not enter your business today! (link below)

Creativity is usually centered around the idea of 'thinking outside the box' doing something in a unique or different way in order to better yourself! We believe at Zing that you must fully embrace and understand what is inside the box (the norm) so that you break out of it!

It can be easy to say you are going to strive to be more creative but actually taking the steps and seeing results, not so much! That’s why we want to share 4 top tips that we use to channel our creativity at Zing.

1. Prototyping

This is a huge part of daily life for the designers at Zing. Customers come to us with a vison and it’s our job to be creative, take the information they give us and bring their idea to life! This requires a series of proofs and requires creativity to a few options for the customers. Creating proofs/drafts allows you to look at the same task in several ways- challenging yourself to create these different visuals can inspire creativity!

2. Create and compare

This is based around the idea of isolating yourself when trying to be creative, allowing yourself to come up with completely unique ideas. Sometimes when you have been exposed to ideas that are already in use you can avoid that thought path as it can be considered copying. When you come up with your own original ideas it’s easy to make small adjustment to your original ideas after you have came up with them hence the idea create your own and then compare to what is already out there.

3. Mind-mapping

This may seem relatively basic as a technique however do not underestimate the power of a good mind map! It’s a great way to empty your brain and record both new and existing ideas surrounding a topic. At the end of each month the marketing team @ Zing use a mind map to organise all the ideas for all things marketing in the next coming month- jotting down ideas fro campaigns, offers, emails and so much more. It's a great starting point idea expansion and its relaxed design allows the creativity to flow.

4. Visual inspiration

Expanding your visual horizon on a daily basis can help to open your creative eye. Following inspiring accounts on social media or subscribing to leading magazines within your industry. Being exposed to other people’s work can have great benefits for your creativity. This may seem like a contradiction to the 'Create and Compare' but creativity means different things to individuals so it’s all about exploring what technique works for you!

At Zing we are always aiming to expand our creativity with the ultimate goal of creating the finest print products for our customers, we always aim to innovative and improve our methods.
